About Homeopathy

NO HARMFUL SIDE EFFECTS

A special preparation process called potentisation refines the medicines to remove any toxic effects.

SAFE

Suitable for babies and octogenarians alike and during pregnancy and menopause. Special care must be taken with any medication during pregnancy. You should make sure that your homeopath is aware that you are pregnant or that there may be a chance of you being pregnant.

GENTLE

Work by stimulating the body's own natural defence mechanism.

EASY TO TAKE

Remedies are given either as small pleasant tasting tablets which dissolve in the mouth, or in liquid form. Granules, powders or drops are available for babies and children.

INEXPENSIVE

A homeopathic remedy costs less than the current NHS prescription and can be kept for later use.

INVALUABLE FOR FIRST AID

A small box of remedies and simple instruction manual will deal with most routine problems - such as bruises, burns, sprains, insect bites and gastric upsets - in the home or workplace.

NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS

All remedies are tested on healthy humans. The symptoms that a remedy causes in a healthy person, are exactly those that can be cured in a person who is unwell and suffering from those symptoms.

VALUE FOR MONEY

The average consultation fee for a homeopath is considerably less than private conventional medicine and compares favourably with call-out charges for specialist skills, such as electrical or gas repairs. There are a growing number of low-cost homeopathy clinics in inner-city areas and community health centres.

PREVENTATIVE TREATMENT

By boosting the body's own defence system, homeopathy can help heighten resistance to colds, flu and other recurring infections.

PATIENT INVOLVEMENT

The homeopath considers the whole person and will ask not only about the symptoms which are bothering an individual, but how they react to the condition, as well as wanting to know about general health and lifestyle.

Homeopathy and Hayfever

Hayfever is the common name for a group of symptoms which occur when the person is particularly susceptible to irritation of the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and respiratory tract from various pollens. Hayfever is characterised by runny nose, streaming eyes, sneezing and catarrh.

More and more people today are discovering that natural medicines offer a genuine way of treating disease. One of the most respected and popular of these is homeopathy, a complete system of medicine, which is entirely natural. It is complete because this method of treatment can be applied to any condition or disease, and natural because it works by giving the body a precise stimulus, which enables it to heal itself.

Every case is treated individually, however there are a number of remedies that are often used to treat hayfever. These include:

  • Allium Cepa (red onion)- Profuse watery tears, red eyes, burning in the nose and inflammation of the throat. They are worse in a warm room.
  • Apis (honey bee) - Redness and swelling of the face, red and burning eyelids.
  • Arsen Alb - Eyes burning hot with a flow of hot burning tears. Sneezing with no relief. Very restless.
  • Euphrasia (eyebright) - Profuse nasal discharge during the day, nose blocked at night. Sensation of having sand in the eyes with a copious flow of burning tears.
  • Natrum Muriaticum (sodium chloride) - Red and dry eyes, worse for being in the hot sun.
  • Pulsatilla (wind flower) - Inflammation of eyes and the eyelids. Profuse discharge of thick yellow mucus. Itching and burning of the eyes compels rubbing and scratching.

If symptoms persist, seek advice from a qualified homeopath.

An HMA registered homeopath has knowledge of a large number of remedies. He or she will take an in depth look at your lifestyle, diet, past illnesses, family history etc. and individualise a course of treatment to suit you. They will, in effect, be treating the whole person, not just the symptoms of your complaint.

Homeopathic remedies can be taken in conjunction with other prescribed medicines, but do not stop any medication without consulting your doctor and homeopath first.

Homeopathy and Backache

More and more people today are discovering that natural medicines offer a genuine way of treating disease. One of the most respected and popular of these is homoeopathy, a complete system of medicine, which is entirely natural. It is complete because this method of treatment can be applied to any condition or disease and natural because it works by giving the body a precise stimulus, which enables it to heal itself.

Backache can strike anyone at anytime and is as common as a cold or headache. The symptoms of backache differ from one person to another. Among the common symptoms are pain, together with stiffness, which may develop either suddenly or slowly. The pain may be a continuous ache or it may occur only in a certain position. Coughing and sneezing, as well as bending and twisting, may make the pain worse. Mechanically caused back pain is usually made worse by these activities.

Homeopaths treat backaches according to the symptoms that the patient may present and depends on the cause of the problem. There are some general precautions which those prone to backaches should follow. While lifting heavy objects, keep your back straight; bend your knees and let the legs do the work; avoid high heels; if you want to sleep, do not sleep in a chair, but lie down; if you have to sit for a long time - when driving for instance - use a cushion to support the small of your back; sleep on a fairly firm bed, or put a board under your mattress.

Every case is treated individually, however there are a number of more common remedies that homeopaths use to treat backaches. These include:

  • Arnica (Leopard's Bane) - Aching over all the limbs as if bruised and broken. Pain is worse on touching or moving. Everything the patient lies on seems too hard.
  • Bryonia (Wild Hops) - When there is stitching and stiffness in the small of the back. Intense aggravation from any movement, wants pressure or something hard under the back. Every spot is painful to pressure.
  • Hypericum (St Johns Wort) - Joints feel bruised. Coccyx injury from fall, with pain radiating up spine and down limbs.
  • Rhus Tox (Poison Ivy) - Severe stiffness of the neck, shoulder blades, hands and fingers, with tearing pains in the lower back, increased on resting. There is restlessness and the pain is worse on starting to move and better on continued gentle movement. Pain is worse in a damp climate.
  • Ruta (Rue-bitterwort) - All parts of the body are painful, as if bruised. Backache is better with pressure and lying on the back.
  • Sepia (Inky juice of Cuttlefish) - Low backache, which is better from pressure and from active exercise.
